Strong political backing for Helsingør's bid to become European Capital of Culture 2032
The upcoming work will be organized as a partnership between Helsingør Municipality and the Elsinore 2032 association. The pre-qualification application needs to be submitted by October 5, 2026, and then the final selection process will happen in 2027.

The idea for Helsingør to aim for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2032 came about in 2017. This happened at a network meeting for 'We Gather All of Helsingør'.
Overwhelming support in the City Council for the association's work: 24 votes to 1.
"I can see that a lot of cultural players, businesses, schools, and citizens have joined the association. They've come together because there's a common project that everyone really wants to be a part of. It's bubbling up from below, and I think we should bubble along with it."
